Planning Unit

The Planning Unit of the Regional Directorate of Health Services (RDHS), Hambantota, plays a vital role in strengthening the district health system through evidence-based planning, coordination, and monitoring.

The unit is responsible for formulating annual health plansmonitoring implementation, and evaluating performance of all curative and preventive health institutions under the RDHS. It ensures the efficient utilization of resources, supports decision-making through data analysis, and facilitates alignment of district health activities with national and provincial health priorities.

Key functions of the Planning Unit include:

  • Preparing and reviewing the District Health Plan.
  • Coordinating with MOH offices, hospitals, and special campaigns.
  • Monitoring and evaluating health indicators and program performance.
  • Conducting health situational analyses and resource assessments.
  • Providing technical and statistical support for evidence-based management.
  • Facilitating capacity building and performance review meetings.

Through its activities, the Planning Unit ensures that health services in Hambantota District are efficient, equitable, and responsive to the needs of the community.
