Epidemiology Unit
The Epidemiology Unit of the Regional Directorate of Health Services (RDHS), Hambantota, is responsible for the surveillance, prevention, and control of communicable diseases within the district. The unit plays a key role in maintaining public health security through early detection, timely response, and effective management of disease outbreaks.
Its main functions include:
- Conducting disease surveillance and maintaining up-to-date epidemiological data.
- Investigating and controlling communicable disease outbreaks.
- Coordinating immunization and vaccination programs in collaboration with MOH offices.
- Providing technical guidance for field investigations and preventive measures.
- Conducting training programs for health staff on disease prevention and reporting.
- Promoting community awareness on infectious disease control and prevention.
