Maternal and Child Health Unit
he Maternal and Child Health Unit of the Regional Directorate of Health Services (RDHS), Hambantota, is responsible for improving the health and well-being of women, infants, and children across the district.
The unit oversees the implementation, coordination, and monitoring of maternal and child health programs in collaboration with Medical Officers of Health (MOH) offices, hospitals, and other stakeholders. It ensures the delivery of high-quality antenatal, postnatal, family planning, child welfare, and adolescent health services.
Key responsibilities of the MCH Unit include:
- Guiding and supervising maternal and child health activities at the field level.
- Monitoring key indicators such as maternal and infant mortality, immunization coverage, and nutrition status.
- Strengthening safe motherhood and child development initiatives.
- Conducting training and capacity building for health staff.
- Promoting health education and community awareness on reproductive, maternal, and child health.
Through these efforts, the MCH Unit plays a crucial role in ensuring that every mother and child in Hambantota District receives comprehensive, accessible, and equitable health care.
